    Can Javascript affects website performance?

    Hello guys,

Here are some of my questions related to Javascript.

    1) Can Javascript or Ajax codes affect the website performance? My website has a lot of ads like adsense, cpx, and I also use the Openx script. All of them run on javascript platform as well. On average, I have 4-5 ads per page. Will this increase my website loading time? Apart from the ads, I only use one single javascript code to implement my website's navigation menu.

    2) My website loads pretty much the same speed as the other similar websites. But when I use the Pingdom.com's webtool to check the load test, I found out my website was categorized as Slow if compared to the others. Is it because I use plenty of javascript/Ajax (ads)?

    3) I noticed many people start to use Ajax to replace flash slideshow. Can you share with me why Ajax slideshow is better than the slideshow created from Flash (SWF format)?

Can anyone shed some light please. Thanks.

    Cheers,

    Yes! They are.

    - Using massive ajax and javascript does effect your site performance. Especially speed load. Best example are gmail. Slow connection are suffering to death. However, i do believe... dial-up such dying now. that's not really damn matter.

    - The another story is... if you're not mastering enough in Javascript, commonlly attached / include unused script. That's mean, not totally utilized, because i know... most of the people just copy and then paste and then modify the code. Without much aware on some of the code function should be there at all!.

    - So.. for the best answer is, use JS / ajax / whatever as necessary as they are, do not over used it.

    Answering ur question :

1 - As above, + here there reason...
a - Adsense : they are not about their script, it's their ads system server, i think they served well. Not effected much your load site. Their ads specs (even flash/video size ) are restricted to certain size too.
b - OpenX : This is the problem. The OpenX Open Market terriblly slow! Demmnnn.. i mean it!. If you used their FREE openX server, please really damn aware about their speed.
    - and if you used you own install openX ads script, the activatee their OpenXMarket , you'll slow down your site load even they are in the iframe ads. (they parsing some vars etc to track bid price bla bla bla.. )

2 - Usually locally host site (malaysia) are slow compared to others. (but it's faster for malaysian visitor)

3 - Ajax slide show are fast and better than flash in some reason :
    - no need flash plugin.
    - SEO are better! Images are searchable and plus! you can tip / title them as well as mean better seo too.
    - easy to update! yeah.. just replace them.. no need to open flash sware or edit XML or etc etc..
    - FLASH ARE SEO FAIL.

Yes, may slow down. That's why many webmaster rather link to Google's Jquery.js instead. But running 2 - 3 Java should be fine. I run 5 :P Still load find though...

well, all about the javascript processing already well explained by mysticmind.

for javascript version of slideshow. I recommend you use jquery or mootools based...

    such as:

    JCarousel: jCarousel - sorgalla.com
SmoothGallery: JonDesign's (Javascript) SmoothGallery 2.0: Improved Mootools Mojo for Images | What is it ?
