    Win XP and asp3.0 session object

    I implemented my site with the above object, and discovered that some of my visitors using thje win xp os having problems to login to my system. The system didnt log them in although they had the login name and password correct. One of them restarted his pc, and changed his security settings to medium( or low, i dont quite recall) and succeded to login normally. Another friend did the exact same thing but she couldnt resoleve the problem. Is there any particular security settings that compromises the ability of win xp users to login to my site? Feel free to check out the site: http://www15.brinkster.com using login name vip and password webmaster. Thanks for your time

    well.... myself are using asp scripts as well on my sites. my members login sites seem to be ok running in 95/98/me/2000/xp. Maybe you should check your scripts on storing cookies to their browser. Or maybe it could be your scripts problem..........

    Okay. Sorry about th e incomplete URL. The correct one is :
    http://www15.brinkster.com/wajjaq/index.asp
    One thing, i do not use cookies, just purely session object. I do not think theproblem is from my script, as problem only occurs to win xp users.

    Anyway, speaking about cookies, is there any shortcut to use cookies for session prolonging other than placing the 'session variable refilling' codes in another page and redirect everything to the previous page?

    thanks

    Yes, you do not use cookies explicitly, but your browser will store an identifier for the session (the session id) in the form of cookies on the client.

    Regarding your "prolonging" question, what you mean is you would like to prolong the session timeout? If this is the case, you can do the following:

    session.timeout = 50

    This will effectively set the timeout to 50 minutes, from the default 20 minutes. Hope this helps.

    I completely understand the timeout operation, mr yew, what i want to know is when your session expires, i want to use cookies to renew the session. How do i do that, do i relogin the user in another page and redirect him to the page he intended to go? Or is there a shortcut for this.

    Another quesstion : can u retrieve the current page's address? eg: i want to redirect a user to another page and bring him back to the previous page. and i want the redirection address to be dynamic. is it possible?

    Hmmm... what about my win xp issue? has anyone tried my site yet? pls dont abuse it okay!

    Thanks

    syahrezan,

    When a session expires, it expires... You just have to ask the user to Signin again.

    Maybe you can make use of Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER") in "another page" and use this value to redirect user back to the referer page.

    Yes, when a session expires, it just does. But, i dont want to bother my users with another login process again. (u know internet users) so i decided to send them a cookie that persists longer than the sesion period (mayber a couple of hours) and when their session expires after 20 mins, they can continue browsing/using the site because the system will repopulate their session variables from the cookies. That is the idea. my question is, the repopulation of variable: is there a better technique other than doing it in another page (eg:login page) or cramming the repopulationg codes in every single page of my site?

    about the request object: thanks a lot. ill try it.

    syahrezan,
    I have no idea about the repopulation... but if you concern about the session thing, why not simply set the timeout property to a longer period?

    you know well that it will take up a lotta resources. i want to renew a user's expired session using cookies. i already have the idea doing it in another page, i was just inquiring the better technique.

    about the http_referrer, does it only work in iis 5? cuz im using pws win 98 and that doesnt exist. Thanks

    HTTP_REFERER shoud exist in pws as well (but I may be wrong). Please double check on the spelling -> HTTP_REFERER.

    nope yew, i ve listed all objects, and it wasnt there. About the cookie thingy, session does not directly use cookies, but i have tried increasing security in my browser, and it crashed. I supposed it somehow relates to that.

    Server.execute dengan server side include... mana lebih sesuai dan pantas...
    PHP Code:
    <?php echo "PHP is a language?"?>
