    Website License Code

    Hi,

    I developing a portal, and maintain it for a long time.
    Any idea how can i hide some code into the code. And force to read or get the license code from my website.

    I got an idea, if($varialble!="")

    * Seems very hard to do it, because they might hire another new programmer to remove all those code, and make the website run again.

    If you've developed the portal in HTML / PHP, the simple answer is: you can't. If they have the server, or even just access to the server, they have everything.

    You can't even practically obfuscate scripts. In the bad old days of unfriendly software company takeovers, it was commonplace for disgruntled developers to rename all the variables to var0000, var0001, etc, and to remove all whitespace and comments. The code would still compile to working executables, but would be unmaintainable. These days, there are code beautifiers available online that convert ugly code back into source that's easier to maintain (though can't write comments!)- so simple obfuscation isn't 100%. You could slowly obfuscate your client's code under the guise of performance enhancements (look at the source for a Google page - no comments, no whitespace). If they realise what you're doing before you complete it, you may have trouble persuading a court you aren't sabotaging their business. If the code is already deployed, you have to write it off to experience - risking court action would be stupid.

    If you've developed the portal in Java (or any other compiled language), then as long as the source is kept separate from the object code, you're laughing. There are PHP bytecode encoders and interpreters, but a quick Google suggests that they're neither complete nor reliable.

    Something to bear in mind, if you're writing in PHP: you might be giving your clients more than you think.

    Yes. if you use php, please check ioncube. I have ioncube license. It's easy to deploy and most of shared hosting environment already installed it. You can set limit base on time, ip address, domain name an even MAC address. And for your info, a lot of established company use it. How it work, your php code will be encrypted and the performance is faster than original code. Just check on their website.
