php and asp are more alike... php is developed and maintened by OpenSource while ASP is a microsoft proprietor scripts...

bot accomplish the same thing which is to develop online database driven web applications.

While ASP is no longer updated by ms then there not much feature there unless you go into ASP.NET. DotNET is introduced by MS to arm wrestle with java technology after they failed in their attemp to introduce their own proprietor java technology called J++...

Php is on the other hand, maintained by opensource foundation.. the future of it is not set yet...

for spec wise... ASP are to be run on MS server only while PHP run on linux, unix...

The ipay88 payment processor are running on a asp platform and their script integration are asp based. Donno whether they have upgraded it or not now.

you might say php is the way of the future but somehow i see that jsp is coming up... not to mention AJAX with XML....

    PHP is 9 /10.
    ASP is 2 / 10
    ASP.net maybe 5 / 10

    yes.. that was my rating..
What i hate the most in asp = slow server on high hits. really really really slow..

But dont worry.. there's still so much demand on ASP programer.
Even my company trying hard to find a good programer (with not paying too much) hehe..

    Ermm... 1 thing i noticed..
Most of asp programer is women.
most of the php programer is man.

uhuh.. wat makes U rate so low for Classic ASP?

I think they can get 10/10 if optimized from da point of code structure to database manipulation & also sever configuration which suppotin them

its maybe slow down abit on access databases + ASP. Somemore maybe the slowdown due to usage of DSN and ODBC.. I've read some site review b4 that uses of DSNLESS actually increase speed for large hit databases..

ASP but if used with MSSQL it can go fast and on par with MYSQL.
Anyway... like WingWP said.. db speed are mostly depends on how good the programmer structure its db.. if optimized and indexed properly it can go fast too...

until today I am stil keep on optimizin my codes & study new technology for my applications

can U imagine some of records in my database r reachin 1 million in several mths which is 1,000,000 of rows & most important they get query & update frequently, transaction is high & sometimes taken all my cpu resourses wen workin in peak time, it might sound not a very high number compare to forum database but trust me those transactions r critical wen I need to query them over 20 times per second

ther must stil hv some error in my codes & I am stil debuggin it bit by bit..

& modifyin a database structure is not easy wen it has gone production..

i'am biased php, so dont agry with my asp rating
actually, it wasnt only the code and query, but the windows server itself. Linux server as well faster than windows server.

    pls correct me if mistake:

if wan2 run ASP programs, we needs IIS to be installed on a Windows server which is not free whereas PHP programs run on Linux is free. And the ASP use the database system from microsoft product while php can use freely available and is fexible to many types of database.

php will be more faster than asp running program. Why can be said like that ??
php only run on memory space?

php is based on c/c++ language which is more familiar used by programmer since it is powerful. While asp is visual basic kind ?

asp is the only advantage is when developing e-commerce application?

yep.... wingwp r right... through ODBC DSN source, basiscally you can connect to any db u wanted but it wil be abit slower than direct connection due to ODBC message overhead. oh.. you can run ASP with ISS on xp pro... not necessary for a server os only....

for small project... i usually use asp coz it fast to code and easy to maintain the access db.. its all depends on the customer budget... small pay=small tech used...

btw... is perl or cgi still in development these days????
