    Build website for your customers??

    Hi,

I would like to know who actually we build our websites to?

We build your customer website to your customer or to your customer's customers. Which mean who will buy products from your customer's website which you have built for him/her.

Which one is correct and why?

in my opinion, we should build the website for our clients, not our client's customers. because we're web designers, we need to design one that our client likes, so that we will be paid well, and our client are satisfied

and if our client suddenly wants their website to have lots of traffic and can make their customer want to buy, that will be another type of payment (for seo optimization, marketing, etc) hehehe. more income for us :P

As Web Designer, we build website for two things:

    1) Human (coz human reads)
    2) Search Engine (for high ranking)

If our customers don't anything about the above, we still build the website for our customers??

Who actually view the website, your customers or your customers' customers??

I know that what those big web design companies do in US is they advice and consult their customers, they act as web consultant to give the best value, to make sure their site is quality and rank high. They have done research, etc.

My humble opinion is we build website for our customers' customers and search engine.

    Thumbs up

We are build for our client not our client's customer.

I think the important thing to get the client is time and services.

If you can delivery the goods to client in a short time and good service or quality. Your client will happy to get your services.
    We are doing so.

depends on the website's target audience. During the briefing / discussion, the project should set a functions (to display company info / promotion /viral marketing)& the target audience (usually the customer's customer).

usually when the client approach the agency, they have an idea how the website should looks like and there might be guidelines on the colour, look and feel (CI guidelines). base on that web designer will design a suitable visual that suits the customer, but also appealing for the customer's customer.

    Hi B-Mecha,

Finally, I got someone really understand what customer needs. Yes, you are correct. For those customers know what they customers want and those our customers what web design really is, then we can build a website for our customers.

But for some who doesn't have any knowledge at all about web design, then we have to study what our customers' customers wants and needs and we as web designer to present to our customers for what their customers want.

This is what all professional web designers been doing. We are not only design a website. Our customers building a website coz they need to boost their sales. If we designers build a website cannot boost their sales, do we consider success in web designing?

    Good B-Mecha.

    Wink

I think you should create a website for your customer and also customer's customer. It is your customer's customer bring sales to your customer. So after you built a website for your customer and it bring more sales, he will ask for you advice more in future.

Cool we need to strike a balance

Web design requires empathy, the skill that enables a person to be in someone else's shoes. In this case, we first and foremost need to emphatize the client's customers/target audience more.

A website's success is the same for any business. If your business cannot meet the demand and wants of the customer, then your business is not in demand. There is no need to use your services because potential customers don't want it.

usually as a designer, you must design to user's expectations and and understand what are they like. are they working people? elderly? young? employed with RM 50k in annual salary? male? female?

these questions maybe stupid to some, but it can dictate your design elements. for instance, women don't like bold websites. sites like fhm, maxim, are bold, designed perhaps by men for men. women prefer softer pastel sites. not that it is girly, it is just their preference.

are the users employed? hence they must have dispensable income. try selling a service online but the users are teenagers? how much can you charge a teenager? then the look and feel is different.

it will be great to get a client that understands all this, but if they don't, don't argue with them. after all, they are paying you. as long as you share this information , they wont say that you did a lousy job because you did inform them of such things about their customers

so its a balancing act. understand the stakeholders of a website project makes project management, and project expectations, a lotttt easier.
