    Basic Web Design Tips

    Don't bother with splash pages.
A splash page is normally a pointless page people put on their websites as an introduction. The page normally contains some sort of image on with a big click here to enter sign, or sometimes people don't say anything and just hope you will click on the picture to enter their site. Splash pages are fairly pointless and it is just creating more work for your visitor as they have to click the mouse button an extra time just to see the content of your site. By removing the splash page the visitor can get to see the best parts of your site straight away, without having to wait for a pointless page to load.

    Keep your navigation simple.
To put it simply if your navigation is too complicated and people don't understand how to get around your site this is a huge web design fault. If a visitor doesn't know how to navigate around your site they will get frustrated and end up leaving. Keep your navigation simple and try to avoid using scripts or complicated flash based menus, not all browsers support scripts, so some of your visitors might be missing out on important.

Keep your paragraphs reasonable readable lengths.
Although having lots of relative and informative content on your website is good, it is a bad idea to have the blocks of text to big. Not everyone likes reading and to much can deter a visitor. If you keep your paragraphs in reasonable lengths it is much easier for a visitor to read and absorb.

    Style it with CSS.
Make sure your text is readable by using a standard font which is compatible with other systems. While some fonts may look good on your computer other people might not have that font installed. It is good web design practice to use CSS when building you site. CSS or Cascading Style Sheets are a perfect way to set and adjust your websites font and size settings. The great thing about using CSS is that you can change the look of your whole site simply by editing the one file.

Test your website using other browsers.
When you are building your site and still in the web design stage it is important to check how it looks on other browsers, just because it looks fine in internet explorer doesn't mean it looks good on Firefox or Opera. Many people use different browsers and if your site looks a complete mess then you will loose that visitor for good. You can check your websites web design to ensure it complies with the web standards at the w3.org website. Testing the pages using the w3 validation tool will help you make sure it is compatible with other browsers.

    Thanks for sharing.

Actually, the last statement is very important. Due to recently there are a few browser in the market such as google crome, internet explorer and firefox.

Sometime when you upload the same script or information, it will show in different thing in different internet browser.

How very true! I didn't bother about this aspect when I first tried to design a new skin at Webmasterteachyourself.com. After designing it with Firefox, I was very pleased with the outcome only to hear complaints of broken layout and hastily set-up site. I was shocked until I saw my website in IE. What a rude shock! You can view your websites at Browsershots.com without having to install each and every browser into your computer in order to do so.

    Yes, I am agree.
But I have one question, do you all agree that if now more and more browsers had come out, if the browser follows just one standard, say W3C standard, and for the web developer just write one type of code, then the different browser will render it successfully.

This is same concept with the J2EE specification. For the Sun he only release the specification, the different vendor develop their server product based on the specification, as well as the web developer just need write one standard coding and can run on any server product. But how the J2EE implementation is different due to different vendor.

Same case with web design world, but the web design world is, the web designer is annoying to fulfill all types of browsers, using many CSS hack to make all browsers happy, all peoples happy, but himself not happy. Internet Explorer 8 also came out. I heard that Microsoft will support Internet Explorer 6 until 2014, and many web designer worldwide is not happy, but seem this browser has the most number of users in the world.

    What is your opinion?

it would be good actually if all browser would render properly on the W3C standard, and is really a pain when have to test all the browsers..

so, for now if to avoid to many hacks, design something which is not tat bombastic. as long as the designs are ok, it would look good across all browsers even without using any hacks

Thanks for sharing. One more thing: Make sure you remember that the purpose of the site is to be used by other people so make it as user friendly as possible. Clean and simple so people can understand how to navigate is key. You can spice it up with your branding or decor but the main skeleton should be logical.
