I agree with you, manual submissions are pretty effective. But I have several web directories and some manual submitters seem to submit sites to random categories (which results in their sites being deleted most of the time).

Sometimes I wonder, if these manual submitters (or whatever they're called LOL) only submit sites manually because they don't have the automatic softwares.

I don't think directory submissions are effective anymore. Earlier in October: Google Removes Directory Links From Webmaster Guidelines

i think you still cant run away from submiting to dmoz and yahoo.

I have a list in my wordprss, but after try it out, most of the url is no longer working fine or it reject the ping request from my blog.
