I use proxy servers like hidemyass.com and others and confirm my site is inaccessible but only for that few minutes. Most of the time I will not dare to complain as support has many times shut down my site blaming it for congestion when I am convinced my visitors and CPU usage cannot be that high - I'm using WP-supercache (with CDN support) for my wordpress blog by the way. So its better I just tolerate the intermitten but frequent downtimes.

Just now my blog at blog.gilachess.com was down for a few minutes. It's a common occurence but I'm too tired to complain to support anymore.
    Hi gilachess,

    That maybe your ISP problem.
Sometime I also having problem with my websites, which I can't access, but my provider show no downtime.

You may try the following tools when you facing problem.

just ping - Online ping - Online web-based ping: Free online ping from 50 locations worldwide
Down For Everyone Or Just Me -> Check if your website is down or up?

    Exactly!

That's exactly what support will tell me and has told me every time I complained. They put the blame on the ISP or the router or my internet connection.

Of course I have thought of that which is why I've used external proxies like hidemyass and zend2.info to see. I've even asked my sister in US to test it out on IM whenever we have th short downtime and she can't access it too at that particular time.

Besides downtime, sometimes it's MYSQL that has "gone away". It's intermitten problems like these that makes it bad. Exabytes refusal to believe it's a problem at their end compounds the problem.

MYSQL that has "gone away". It's intermittent problems like these
I have to say that I always found Exabytes support to be very attentive and very polite on every occasion, but an osCommerce site with a Wordpress blog that I had on Exabytes some time ago also had exactly the same problems: MySQL 'gone away' and intermittent error 500s. Those webs were previously hosted from home using DynDNS/ZoneEdit and had no such problems there. I have to confess to suspecting that those intermittent outages were just normal for shared hosting in Malaysia, so I didn't try any other shared hosting companies. The problems went away again when the sites were copied to an unmanaged VPS host, where they're served alongside a few other sites as Apache VirtualHosts.

I just thought I'd better mention that I had a similar experience in case you were feeling isolated! It's a tricky situation - the amount of effort required to track down the nuisance fault didn't seem worth it for me. I feel your pain. If you're not keen to host your sites yourself, then trying other hosting companies is your only option. Good luck with that. You could always 'close one eye'.

The intermittent MYSQL errors are mostly due to the Maximum Users Connections for user's MYSQL reached.

    On a shared hosting environment, in order to control a server's overall stability, normally web host will set following limits on MYSQL servers;

MySQL :: MySQL 5.0 Reference Manual :: 5.1.3 Server System Variables
MySQL :: MySQL 5.0 Reference Manual :: 5.1.3 Server System Variables

When a client's MYSQL reach max connections limit, it will receive error.

On Dedicated Server or VPS, you don't see the same error due to you are the only user using the VPS / Dedicated Server and no limit is set by default.

Thanks for letting me know about the Mysql configs.

    I'll try it out.

About VPS and dedicated hosting, the issue here it's of course cost. I think it's silly for me to go for dedicated which is 10 times more than what I'm paying. My site average visitor count is around 100 a day.

Also, I've tried Godaddy webhosting budget account that is about the same price as Exabytes shared webhosting Linux. I hosted a wordpress site that had traffic hitting 1000 visitors a day without any problems. No downtimes, CPU overloads or Mysql timeouts. I know if I have the same traffic at Exabytes, I'd be shut down by Exabytes for CPU hogging or some violation.

I'm also one of the exabytes clients.
I think the company had done great jobs serving their costumers like me.

Sometimes there is some problems that will come out, but the problems can be solved....
Until now, I still recommended this company for malaysians....

Just wanna know from the Administrator, why do this forum is not moderated anymore...

Well..unlike many who have good experience with Exabytes. I personally do not have

I bought a unlimited shared hosting plan and placed up a custom wordpress website and was asked to removed or my account will be suspended due to shared hosting cpu limit of "7%?" (forget the exact amount). And the other problem is that my sites on exabytes is always down. So i have to sign up with other hosting instead.

    so sad..

thats why buying low end vps is much worthy at times when you consider the price is almost what you are paying for a shared hosting. You can backup all your data with total privacy.
