SSL or Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol for transmiting private data like credit card details over the internet. Your data is protected by encryption, a mechanism that prevents and protect your trasmitted data over eavesdropping and tampering. Thus, having a SSL on your site, give more confidence to your customer that their data is secured and kept confidential.

Yes, SSL is one type of digital certificate where it encrypt encrypt the communications between users and web sites. Website with SSL certificate is secured whenever data sent via an SSL connection is protected by encryption. It is a mechanism that prevents any tampering on any transmitted data. SSL provides consumers with the confidence that private data sent to a web site, such as credit card numbers, are kept confidential.

If you are doing online business, it is best you subscribe for a SSL certificate on top of your hosting package.

    Alternate

Alternately, you can get it free. Generate it with OpenSSL and sign it yourself. Self signed will prompt extra screen when someone visiting your site, but it works the same.

    SSL Certificate

Emm..... i have visit some website, in between i found this website not bad,
Organizations enrolled in True Site use their online identities to send these messages:

Owner is known and associated with the web site
Consumers know that your organization is legitimate
Consumers know that your web site is genuine
Smart icon has company and time/date stamp embedded. If a user tries to recreate a static image, it will not update
with the current time and date.
True Site sets your web site apart, resulting in:
    - Increased customer traffic
    - Expanded length of time a customer browses your web site
    - Improved probability of a customer transaction
    - If you are at all serious about your web site, you need True Site.

    Seem like ok rite?

Where you found the "website"? A GeoTrust reseller website?

The info you mentioned seems are referring to the smart seal which comes with QuickSSL Premium or True BusinessID. It depends on your business. If you just simply want to secure your customer transaction, QuickSSL is good enough.

As mentioned in earlier replies, SSL cert is about offering your customer a peace of mind that their sensitive (usually financial) data will be securely transacted to you, and you are indeed a credible business entity (who prioritize this, using proper, premium technologies).

For an analogy, people would TRUST you better if your site and email address bear a full domain name registered under your (organization) name, compared to if you are using a free web & email host (yahoo, hotmail, gmail etc). And they'll TRUST YOU BEST if your site also sports a shiny HTTPS URL with lock/data encryption mechanism compared to a plain HTTP. (and yes, you need a full fledged domain name, and normally a dedicated IP address to install a digital SSL certicate for your website). A little investment does wonder in establishing trust for your business. After all BUSINESS = 100% TRUST. With TRUST (ie. "Wa Caya Sama Lu"), deals get closed. Without TRUST, they'll say something like, "I'll come back to you later... (will think about it, or about to run away from you!)"

You can buy these certs that start at the low RM-hundreds or up to RM-thousands based on validation process and usage plan (number of hosts/servers etc.). Validation takes from as fast as minutes (verifying email address) and up to about two business days (phone call, document verification etc.)

BTW, we resell Thawte (now under Verisign, the largest SSL provider also (still is) the sole registry operator for .com and .net top-level domains) Digital SSL Certificates at surprisingly lower prices than Geotrust, Instant SSL or Rapid SSL! And deep discounts available for multi-year purchase. Oh yeah, local support... i.e. we're especially supporting Malaysian customers...

Contact us if you need any assistance on SSL certs.

Thanks for sharing...........................SSL Certificates are small data file that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organizationís details. When installed on a webserver, it activates the padlock, https (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a webserver to a browser. Typically SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer, logins and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites. An SSL Certificate binds together:
    * Your domain name, server name or hostname
    * Your organizational identity (i.e. company name) and location

You can get the SSL certificate at here XnYnZ.COM
