    Wink Domain expiry not tracked

    Hi,

Recently, my cartoon website domain and hosting became expired and I didn't know about it until after the expiry date.

When I tried to open the website, what I saw was another page with links to some other websites, some of them to porno sites too. Imagine my frustration and fear. This could affect my reputation, especially if I have a lot of visitors, and what if they pass the message on.

The hosting company did send an email to me, but after the expiry date. I was too busy at that time to notice the expiry date, because this type of email will usually remind me of a coming expiry date and I will have time to renew.

I managed to pay online at night. (Lucky too, instead of waiting for the bank to open). The domain and hosting was renewed within a day. That's good. Kudos for that company. When contacted, they say they are doing some upgrading at their servers. Not sure what they mean by that, but I hope it will be for the better.

It's a lesson I have learned - to not rely too much on the hosting company to remind, but to keep track myself. I dread to think what will happen if somebody else managed to buy my domain name which I have spent considerable amount of time to build up.

Now, I have set up autoresponder messages to remind me because writing down inside my diary will not work. The pages of normal diary are valid only for one year, whereas domain will expire only the next year. To see an example of some of my autoresponders visit my newsletter page at Marine Treasure Chest and Tech Marketing and subscribe.
