    its been awhile since i tried OSC but i think you have to password protect the admin directory using cpanel.

    You need to .htaccess your /catalog/admin directory so that it is password protected. You
    can use the password manager in your server admin area like cpanel.
    page 9 of the manual pdf

    at your cpanel urmm... panel,

    Click on "Password Protect Directiories"
    Navigate to your Oscommerce admin directory.

    Tick the "Directory requires a password to..." (with the padlock)
    Insert your username and password and click "add/modify"

    add more if you want

    except the layout, it include most of the popular contribution into the system. Is all-in-one so you later dont add the contribution one by one.

    go Webtools->Protected Areas->add new potected area

    but before do that, u hv to set the user 1st,
    Webtools->Protected Areas->manage user adn groups

    select teh user when u add the protected area,
    after done hv to wait a while...status must be "ok"
