Use a download manager where it can resume your download.

You can find them at Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com.

I've a feeling FF3 might have download resume built in... anyone know? But you don't just need a client that can support download resume: the server must too. I think the server has to support a GET method using a Range: header field. Not all webservers do.

A quick search turns this page up:

Resume Downloads in Firefox / Iceweasel | PlayingWithSid.blogspot.com :: A blog about GNU / Debian Linux (Sid / Unstable) GNU, free software, tutorials, linux tutorial, bittorrent, p2p, mplayer, shell, unix

Saying what I thought, but also with a wget argument I hadn't seen before - I might try that myself sometime!

One (sometimes controversial for no inherent reason) way to get 'resume' functionality is to download your file by p2p. I try to always get my CD/DVD ISOs this way. Sometimes it can be slow to start, but I usually get CDs inside of 24 hours, and DVDs in under a week, and I don't worry about download speeds, or effect on other software while I'm doing it.

Seems like we haven't come very far still. Perhaps there's an opportunity for a DVD-in-the-post company in Malaysia? I think some movie rental companies do this in other countries now. You order your movie online, you have a DVD next day. A DVD in 12 hours is still a lot of bandwidth - around 1Mbit/s sustained for 12 hours.

i used orbit downloader for big file.
however, certain download site (Rapidshar etc) didn't allow that unless you're premium member .

but if the file from a normal site.. there's no worries.
