Baby to lose arm, hospital says sorry

KLANG: The Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here has apologised to the parents of a premature baby whose left arm will have to be amputated after the limb became infected at the hospital.

Hospital director Dr Yahaya Baba said he had met the parents several times and tendered the hospital’s apologies.

“The case will be thoroughly investigated by the Health Ministry and appropriate measures will be taken,” he said, adding that any monetary compensation due to the parents would be worked out by the ministry.

The parents – mechanic Lai Kian Khee, 24, and his Thai wife Nut Tuemthong, 27 – were initially relieved that their first child, despite being born prematurely on July 23, seemed healthy.

Lai Yok Shan was kept in an incubator and put on a drip attached to her left hand.

“In the incubator, she appeared to be a very active baby,” Lai told a press conference yesterday.

Last Saturday, the hospital informed the parents that Yok Shan’s condition was “not good”.

Lai rushed to the hospital and found that his daughter’s left arm had lost colour.

“The next day, the arm turned black and began to swell up to the elbow,” a tearful Lai said, adding that the doctors told him that the arm needed to be amputated.

“When I asked them if my baby’s life could be saved, they refused to say anything.”

Lai said he was still in shock and was now desperately praying for his daughter's survival.

Condition ‘not good’: Lai found out last Saturday that Yok Shan’s left arm had lost colour. The next day it had turned black, he said.

Hurm.. i'm not surprise when hearing the news.. it's the same hospital where my sister lost her ability to walk 18 years ago..She entered the hospital when 13, because of appendix.. and doctor gave her injection that suited to adult (almost of our family is big and tall.. at 13, we usually have the height as an adult).

She was comma for 2 years, then my father brought her back from hospital. She can't even swallowed her food, which we have to gave her through one tube. She neither can sit nor talk, which my father and mother have to spend thousands ringgit, sell our lands to cure her, that finally after few years, she can speak, manage herself but still can't walk. She has to use wheelchair till now in her 32 years old.

the case was closed .that time, no tv3 come to help

well everything is possible in this world... for your case i would suggest you read/see the video on a true life story of this called "The Miracle Man - Morris Goodman". He basically survived a plane crash with highly severe injuries and yet managed to stay alive and walk out of the hospital with his feet...

    excerpt from his website.

While attempting to land his airplane one afternoon Morris crashed. With his neck broken at C1 and C2, his spinal cord crushed, and every major muscle in his body destroyed Morris was no longer able to perform any bodily function except to blink his eyes. His injuries were too severe for him to survive.

But the man the doctors dubbed "The Miracle Man" did survive and with a strong faith in God, courage and determination, Morris not only rebuilt his body but also his mind and outlook on life.
the url is at themiracleman.org/ ... this is no miracle that fall from the skies or some hocus pocus thingi...

its all bout the application of one's mind, faith, definiteness of purpose and determination...
