Server Load Optimization : Just need help & sharing tips.

Actually.. i never face something like this before.. And after got the problem about it, i just blur on what I need to do regarding this. And I realized.. that's few thing i just missed to learn and to know it.

Server load and bandwith is 2 different thing but still related. = domain / hosting suspended.

So.. anyone wanna share with me? Let discuss about it.

Last 2 month.. i got my client site bandwith overused and heavily increase each day.. From a site below 3GB bandwith.. then OMG... the bandwith usage increase about 2GB perday!.. suspended already.. After doin some checking.. I just found the MYSQL and apache server heavily load..

There's no leaking big file.. no mp3, nor video file.

Later, my well established site face it too.. God!.. i got no idea about this.. What I think I can do later (before getting dedicated server? - more money? mana mau cari aaa.. ), I must check all my site / hosting space :

1 - if there is leaking big file.(but this not about server load?)
2 - check all the script..
3 - disable image uploading for certain user
4 - disable search method for guest.

etc.. but does this few step enough? Server load / CPU load .. server overload optimization...

Anyone! I really need your experience now

One of my website was suspended constantly by the web host. They claimed that it is overloaded, using CPU resource of 45%.

I remodified the script, removed all the plugins, reconstruct the templates, and try making sure there are nothing else other than the core script are running.

1 day later, they suspend me again.

Then I moved to another web host. Hoping to give another try on shared hosting environment before moving to VPS or dedicated server.

    No problem till now.

Mystic bro, what is the website URL, perhaps you can give us an idea how large the traffics are per day, and the scripts and stuff. So that the fellow web hosts here also can give their opinions on this.

    thanks limcs.

it's my established site. local target for comicss & cartoon, also related to animation, 3d animator... bla bla bla..

The site is not so many unique visit on the main page, but the forum does.
Average per day unique visitor is only about 600 - 900 + user. most active user in the forum daily is about 200 + .. and posting stats quit high. Also.. image uploading everyday might be the other reason.

The guest browse in the forum topics almost 100 ++ in time. Coming from search engine etc.. And i also noticed, too many yahoo spider and other bot crawling inside.. everyday.. (does spiderbot using so much cpu load?)

What im thinking now is to upgrade all the outdated script the latest one, maybe migrate to another kind of script. The disable upload image (available for some level user perhaps)

Mysql usage is really damn high.. supposed to be the main reason the hosting provider suspend it.. What is the main factor behind this?
Yes.. i know, my site not as high as other people..

    Erm.. working on it now..

Could be your forum script problem. Are you using Simple Machine? (I know you are a fan of SMB). If possible, you might give PunBB or other minimal resource forum script a try. VBulletin is quite resource intensive too. I'm using PunBB now, and can hold around 3000 uniques a day.

Otherwise, it could be your MySQL problem. Large forums tend to host their database on separate server. But for individual webmaster, this would be a costly move (heck, most of us don't even afford a dedicated server yet). However, MediaTemple has come out with a very attractive plan, providing a VPS-like service to host your SQL database alone for USD$20/month :

(mt) Media Temple - (gs) Grid-Service : MySQLGridContainer

Don't think any of our local host doing it yet. (Hint hint to Exabytes ppl..hehe).

Anyway, hope you can solve this, or you can approach our fellow local host here to get a sponsorship on dedicated server or VPS ( you won't know if you don't ask, right?) Good luck, man.

punbb lack of features. vbulletin just too expensive
and.... dedicated server is a nightmare for 'non profit community' website /forum

nevermind.. before migrate to another server (supposed to be really hard task).. better for me try all the optimization method. If this all cant help much.. there's nothing i can do lah..

Erm.. seems not so many people got Server Overload here...

anyone here hosted at Hostgator ?

Yeah. A bit lack of response here. Anyone else wish to contribute their experience on getting suspended?

I have most of my sites with ResellerZoom (Advanced Reseller Plan). They are pretty decent host. I have hosted with Site5, HostGator, MediaTemple, Asmallorange. Surprisingly, ResellerZoom is so far the better one.

From the info given by mysticmind, it seems like his account overloaded was mainly due to his web site traffic increased.

The best way to isolate the scope of the problem is to ask for the logs from your web host. Normally if they suspend your account due to overloading, the web host should be able to tell which part of the web site caused it.

You may look for hosting plan that allows you higher CPU / Memory usage buffer.

If you're on a shared hosting package, what other methods can we do here?
