    Do you actually SHOP online?

This is the E-Commerce section so I hope Ii''m starting a thread in a right place.

Despite all the ecommerce hype Malaysia is currently having, do you (we all) actually buy the stuff online? I did not mean web hosting this kind of web services that you can only get for the web. I'm talking about the stuff that you normally get from stores/shop. Such as computers, books, accessories, hardware, apparels, sunglasses, flowers, or anything. If yes, feel free to share with us why did you buy it online (instead of doing it in real life)?

For me, I only buy books online (from acmabooks.com) because of their constant discount, as well as free shipping fees.

    What about you?

    - better offers online and you can check out the detailed specifications thru Google as well - before purchasing

I always pay bills online ? Does that count for online shopping .

I've buy PHP Books form phparch. Buy server and laptop for my client from Del. Also some products from susuibu.com.

Books still expensive online. I'm always find the ref. online but buy it at MPH or Kinokuniya.

I also develop one system where contractor can buy their tender online using credit card. So far the response is so good.

hi, of coz I do shop online! First of all, IMHO, i think ecommerce is not a HYPE.It's FOR REAL and It's just another channel of buying things, which complements our offline channel. No fuss. As we getting more connected, it will definitely becoming more of a second nature just to purchase online.

One reason to buy online? Everytime you stuck in the traffic jam, or you cannot locate a parking place in the Mall, probably that's alone will "motivate" you to shop online.

I myself bought computers (DELL again, of coz), pda accessories, toys & collectibles, tickets, software online. As for my wife, after I introduce her to the world of ebay, she now "connected", already spent thousand over buying online, including some magazine cannot be found locally, of course. Not too sure i should be happy or not. A bit dilemma.

As I repeatedly like to say, those merchants in M'sia thinking they still "get hold" of the market, please think again. Internet has allowed us to buy from anyone, virtually anywhere we like. It means consumers are NOW in control, and we can choose to spend money buying stuffs from whoever we like. Before the Internet was born, if we were to buy a PDA, we would go to nearest computer shop to grab one and pay whatever price they ask for. They might be VERY UNFRIENDLY, and take you for granted. But you still need to buy from them. No choice. Else you cannot show off the baby to your geek gang.

But now... if they act LCLY, then we just tell them to go fly kite and choose to spend our money with whoever can offer us good and prompt services. Imagine this, the sellers might be from US, UK, Australia or even China. It doesn't really matter. Thanks to the convenient of Internet which open up to all kinda possibilities.

Thank you for sharing your online shopping experience (and it's scary to know that someone's wife is addicted to Ebay with their husband's credit card). Internet really change the whole commerce landscape.

Where do you buy the pda accessories, toys & collectibles from?

I get some CDs and Movies from http://yesasia.com too.

    guys,
just make sure when you are doing your online shopping, pls make sure that the url starts with something like https <----- especially the "S".

S stands for secure website. you don't want ppl to steal your credit card information or identity away. Pls be very careful.

Thanks for the information. To add on to that, the https indentifies that the transaction is encrypted by a secured socket layer (SSL). You can also view the details of SSL (expiry date, type, security level) of the specific page by double clicking on the "LOCK" icon on your bottom of the browser.
